Royal Birkdale Golf Club

RAL were asked by Royal Birkdale Golf Club to design an extension to their existing art deco clubhouse built in 1935.

The membership of the club has increased in numbers and changed in make up since the 30’s, and so significant enlargement, reconfiguration and updating was required, including a new committee room, female players kit room, new entrance providing direct access from the car park to the course for female club members.

Two flat roofed extensions to the southern end of the existing building accommodate these additional rooms. The extensions have been designed to replicate the lines of the art deco clubhouse, and employ similar materials. New trolley stores and a reconfigured car park provide an updated exterior to the front and rear of the site.
