The challenges set by this project’s location have resulted in ‘upside down’ houses arranged over 3 floors and cut into the hillside. From the top of the hill only the garage and entrance hall are visible, preserving the views from the existing bungalow, but as you descend into the houses, the space opens up into an open plan lounge/kitchen/dining space with direct access onto a terrace with commanding views of the valley below. The lowest story contains three double bedrooms, each with direct access onto the riverside garden. The houses are located to frame a view of a large Oak tree and to replicate the rhythm of the adjacent burgage plots.
