Glenrose developments approached RAL to design a scheme for a number of family homes on a site in rural Lancashire.

The local authority where keen for a rural approach to the design of the dwellings,  the local architectural vernacular evident in agricultural sheds and buildings was then used as a baseline from which to develop a scheme. The resulting properties contain the most attractive elements of this agricultural ‘language’ including large arched openings to replicate those used traditionally for cart horse access, which when infilled with full height glazing provide an impressive feature window to the lounges of these new homes. Other elements such as circular windows to the gables and dormer windows set within swept eaves, provide a discernible link to the past.
