RAL Architects Ltd was formed in May 2001 by Robert Anderson and Anthony Larkin and occupies offices overlooking Lord Street, the internationally renowned Victorian shopping boulevard in Southport, on the North West coast of England.
They were joined at launch by Chris Taylor, a highly skilled architectural technologist and housing energy assessor, and shortly afterwards by Robert Smallwood, a talented architect, with an impressive combination of design skills and technical know how.
Although a new practice, the cumulative work experience of the members totals nearly seventy years in the profession and already lists major commercial developers, house builders and housing associations amongst their rapidly growing client list.
RAL enjoys all the advantages of a “clean slate” start, with the benefits of the latest sophisticated design software enabling production of a 'virtual model' of each project, an invaluable tool in the design process which allows us to continually visualize and refine the design. The final 'virtual building' can be used to produce 3D images and walkthroughs of the building for presentation to clients and planners. The images may be further refined for final marketing purposes if required.
The practice has a successful balance of design flair and technical expertise and an eagerness to explore new concepts and developments in design, procurement and the commercial and ecological rewards to be gained by the conservation of fuel in energy efficient buildings.
